Students across the Trafford and Stockport College Group are celebrating another year of outstanding results and destinations across the board.

Interviewed at the visit, she said: “Congratulations to all of the students here and a big thank you to the students that spoke with me. It’s a nerve-wracking day but it’s a day of celebration for students and it was fantastic to hear about the great outcomes they’d secured, not just in what they’ve got today but also the university routes, the apprenticeship opportunities and for those students moving into the world of work. Also, a big thanks to the team here because I know how hard the staff have worked to get those fantastic outcomes for students.”

Conversations focused on how the Group’s offer – from A Levels and T Levels to vocational courses and apprenticeships – addresses skills needs in key sectors, especially technical education, while supporting the government’s mission to driving growth and widen opportunity through an inclusive curriculum.

Many of the group’s learners have secured places at prestigious universities, including Imperial College London and the University of Manchester, while others are progressing into exciting apprenticeships and jobs with leading employers.

Through initiatives like the Belong programme, the Group continues to break down barriers for students, including those for whom English is a second language or who have taken non-traditional routes via the GCSE programme improving their opportunities for the future.

A Level success

Overall, this year’s A Level students are celebrating some outstanding results, with life-changing outcomes.

A shining example of this is Trafford College student Maedeh Zare, who achieved A*AA in Biology, Chemistry and Maths to secure her place at Imperial College London to study Biotechnology.

Arriving in the UK from Iran in 2022, she said: “It’s been a challenging journey, but the support from college and my passion for science have kept me motivated. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved.”

Marple Sixth Form College celebrated a 100% pass rate, with 40% of grades at A*–B. Top subjects included Film Studies and Media Studies, both achieving 100% high grades, while vocational results in the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design saw 45% achieve Triple Distinction* and 83% Triple Distinction or above.

T Level success

T Level students are continuing to impress employers, with many securing jobs or apprenticeships as a direct result of their industry placements. Highlights this year include: 100% merit and above in Business and Management at Stockport College; 75% merit and above in Adult Nursing; 100% pass rate in Early Years at Cheadle College, with 50% merit or above.

Stockport College student Callum Hitchen

Stockport College student Callum Hitchen completed a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction and has secured an apprenticeship with Caddick Construction.

“The mix of classroom learning and industry experience was perfect for me. My placement gave me the skills and confidence to step straight into my apprenticeship,” said Callum.

James Scott, Chief Executive Officer, said: “The breadth of study options now available to students is remarkable, and the accomplishments being witnessed today are the results of our students’ passion, hard work, and determination. The visit from the Secretary of State reflects the national significance of their success, and I am delighted that our learners had the opportunity to share their stories directly.”

Carmen Gonzalez-Eslava, Group Principal, added: “At Trafford and Stockport College Group we believe education should be accessible to everyone, whatever their starting point. Many of our learners have overcome significant challenges and today’s results show the incredible things they can achieve with the right support.”

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “The achievements of students across Trafford and Stockport College Group are a shining example of the talent and ambition we have here in Greater Manchester. Whether progressing to top universities, stepping into high-quality apprenticeships, or starting careers with leading employers, these results prove that technical and academic routes are equally powerful pathways to success. It’s testament to the dedication of our colleges and sixth forms that young people are leaving with the confidence and skills to shape their own futures and the future of our city-region.”

Also in attendance on results day were Connor Rand MP for Altrincham and Sale West, Sara Todd, Board Member of Skills England and Trafford Council CEO, Sarah Drake, Deputy Chair of Governors, and Rebecca Durber from the Association of Colleges, along with invited guests.
